Lawn Fertilizer:

Fertilizing is an essential lawn care practice, as it affects grass color, capacity to recuperate from stress, and assists in weed and disease prevention.

Lawn fertilization can be one of the most important steps in lawn maintenance. Especially if you want to promote a healthy, beautiful lawn for your home or business. The correct selection and application of fertilizer is the key to success, which is why our customers rely on our specialists to do the work for them.

Your grass requires specific vitamins and nutrients to grow healthy and strong, just like your body does.  A well-fertilized lawn will develop deeper, stronger roots underneath the ground and a visibly healthier appearance above.

Weed Control:

Weeds are life threatening to your lawn, they steal the nutrients from the ground before the grass can absorb it.  As the weeds get stronger your lawn gets weaker, eventually choking out the grass completely. Most common weeds found in Utah yards are, dandelions, crabgrass, bentgrass and Morning glory a.k.a (field bindweed).

Dandelions are a child’s favorite thing to pick and blow once they have gone to seed. It may be cute to see their sweet face get excited to blow the white seeds in the air, the seeds are then sent out with little umbrellas to catch the wind and spread to new places in your yard.

Dandelion plants are extremely difficult to get rid of, their roots can be up to six feet long! Careful when you try to pull them up, if you break them, each individual taproot can grow up to five new shoots.  Unfortunately, it’s almost impossible to eliminate dandelions, without a professional service.

Crabgrass a.k.a (finger grass), is a very common weed. There are two main types found in Utah hairy crabgrass and smooth crabgrass. Crabgrass loves a struggling lawn.  Crabgrass typically grows better in thinning or shortly cut grass, it also enjoys warm areas where the soil lacks nutrients and proper water drainage.

So keeping your lawn healthy and mowed higher than 2.5 inches is your first line of defense.

Morning glory a.k.a (field bindweed) is everyone’s nightmare. This nasty weed loves to work its way into the plants, grows through shrub lawns and all the plants we love.  Sometimes unnoticed, until its leaves emerge and bloom with white flowers by then you’re in trouble! That’s why this plant is widely hated for its invasive tactics and deep root system, which out-competes and smothers other plants.

Don’t yank it from the ground, you may pull up your favorite plant with it and often you won’t get all the roots. Then you may soon turn to tears because the morning glory will just regrow.  Your best defense is to kill it at the root!

Morning glory prefers a temperate and moisturized environment, which is why they flourish in Saratoga Springs climate. When the weather is dry the vines may become infested with spider mites, then you have 2 unwanted things in your yard.

Surface Insect Control

Surface Insect control starts with identifying the surface insect such as billbugs, sod webworms, and cutworms that are causing the lawn damage.  Some insects can only be controlled at certain times during their life cycles, because of this, we will send a VIRIDIS trained Specialist to your home to identify the insect, lifecycle, and level of infestation required to rid the insects from your lawn.   Because the life cycles vary depending on the insect… it’s very important to keep up with lawn treatments to ensure that your grass stays healthy and un-infested.

Grub Control

Grubs are larvae that turn into scarab beetles, there are different species of grubs in Utah: the May/June beetle, black turfgrass ataenius, masked chafer, and Japanese beetle.  These beetles often lay their eggs in lawns, burying eggs beneath the soil surface. When those eggs hatch, hungry grubs come out and start to feed on your lawn’s roots. Grubs make their presence known by creating patches of dying lawn as they consume grassroots and prevent grass from receiving nutrients from the soil.  Grub damage usually goes unnoticed until the grass changed color.  Left un-treatment, your grass will die!

Lawn Disease

Lawn Aeration for Saratoga Springs, UT

Lawn aeration, also called core aeration, is an essential part of Saratoga Springs, Utah lawn upkeep. The most common type of grass in the Saratoga Springs, American Fork, Lehi, Eagle Mountain and surroundings area(s) is Kentucky bluegrass. Kentucky bluegrass is hardy and capable of enduring our alkaline soil and extreme climates.

Though this grass is tough, it doesn’t come without its challenges.  Thatch can build up from the soil becoming too dry and deprived of nutrients.  Unfortunately, this is deadly to your grass… because it can’t soak up water efficiently. This cause’s excess run-off and a big water bill!

Aeration should be part of your lawn care and maintenance plan. Core aeration needs to be done at least once a year for optimal health of your lawn.

With regular use, grass and roots become compacted over time.  Aeration helps the soil, grass, and root system to work more efficiently. Lawn aeration is done by removing small pieces of grass, soil, and roots in measurable increments around your yard.

Fungus Control

The most common types of fungus seen in Saratoga Springs lawns and other Utah areas are snow mold, necrotic ring spots, and fairy rings.  They appear as brown patches and they can be very frustrating and aren’t very pleasing to look at.  Usually fungi necrotic ring spots, the fungus is found in shaded areas, although anywhere in your lawn is vulnerable.  When patches of discolored grass appear in your lawn commonly surrounding a center of healthy, green grass, it’s time to call in a professional.  Necrotic ring spots is a fungus that is found in a lot of Utah County lawns because it grows well in Kentucky bluegrass.

You will start to notice signs of a necrotic spot in the summer time when the weather reaches 85 degrees and above. Because of the hot season, most people will notice brown spots in their lawn and mistake this fungus for grass that is underwatered.  Then their natural reaction will be to increase watering to the areas that have been affected by necrotic spots.  This can cause frustration and increased water bills because the problem was misdiagnosed and not treated properly.

Fortunately, Viridis lawn care specialists are trained to recognize the difference between under watered grass or fungus growing in your lawn.

If left untreated necrotic spots can destroy your lawn and leave your lawn venerable to fungus growth year after year.

Good prevention methods for necrotic ring spots is lawn aeration and over-seeding.  If you notice brown patches of grass in in your lawn, call us right away. Call Us Today: 801-367-9961
